Van der Hoeven has played the lead role in the design, construction and operation of the approx. 50,000m² greenhouse project, located in Oxagon Innovation Bay. The facility demonstrates how high-tech solutions can revolutionize food production, whilst minimizing the use of natural resources and delivering high yields of nutritious produce.
“Food security is one of the greatest challenges of our time, particularly in regions where harsh climates prevent year-round crop cultivation,” said Michiel Schoenmaeckers CEO of Van der Hoeven.
This greenhouse project is designed to incorporate the latest technologies in regards to climate control, energy efficiency, water efficiency and conservation, control automation and data driven growing solutions. This technology will be applied to grow leafy greens, vine crops and soft fruit in changing configurations to determine the optimal synergy between technology and crop. Taking CEA to the next level will be crucial in cultivating year round fresh fruits and vegetables with minimal environmental impact.
The Oxagon facility is the first of two greenhouses delivered by Van der Hoeven as part of an ambitious vision from Topian to become the world’s most food self-sufficient region
